The French group bases its decision on the decline in orders. Now the unions will try to minimize the impact and negotiate solutions.
The management of the Michelin factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz informed the works council on Friday that the factory will lay off 150 of its 3,500 employees. After a meeting to determine the work calendar for 2024, the factory reports that the workload is “the lowest in twenty years”.
For this reason, they have announced various adjustment measures. The first concerns a change in working hours, which will affect 650 employees. The second takes the form of laying off 150 people. And the third affects the planned investments, which will be reduced from 225 million to 150 million euros, that is, 75 million euros less.
This workforce adjustment now opens a period in which the unions will try to minimize the impact and negotiate with the French group the layoffs through voluntary departure, retirement or other forms of incentivized leave.
