Mistaken for crooks – ‘Airsoft’ game with grandma led to police operation

Date:

Three young people launched a major police operation in Imst, Tyrol, late on Thursday afternoon. Witnesses thought the boys wearing ski goggles were armed burglars and alerted the emergency services. A little later it turned out that the boys spent time with an 84-year-old woman and soft weapons.

The police officers probably won’t forget this mission anytime soon! Around 4:30 p.m., ten patrols rushed to a suspected armed burglary in the city of Imst. “Initial information shows that four people are involved who are wearing ski goggles and are armed,” police said.

Softgun weapons were seized
Moments later, officers were able to locate and stop the alleged criminals in front of a nearby residential building. On the one hand there was an explanation among the officials, but also a smile behind closed doors. Because it turned out that the three young people – according to the police Austrians between the ages of 15 and 17 – were playing ‘airsoft’ together with an 84-year-old (!) The deceptively real-looking weapons were temporarily seized. “Those involved did not know what the action would bring about, they did not think about it,” says Engelbert Plangger, commander of the Imst police.
