The alleged escape of a highly poisonous green mamba has caused a stir in the South Holland city of Tilburg in recent days. Now the snake was found in the owner’s house. The two-meter-long mamba had crawled behind a plaster wall.
Her disappearance had made national headlines in recent days, despite other major issues such as the Dutch parliamentary elections.
The owner and police thought the highly venomous reptile had been on the run for days. The police warned Tilburg residents that, as the mamba was “very poisonous”, they should stay at home and under no circumstances try to catch the snake themselves. The police deployed sniffer dogs and snake experts were also present for days to no avail.
Animal “cheerful and active”
The snake apparently survived the hide-and-seek game unscathed. The animal was ‘cheerful and active’, says biologist Freek Vonk, who assisted in the search. “He has been able to drink enough water and is in good health.”
