Just in time for the weekend, the nighttime cold front brought a lot of fresh snow throughout Austria. The snowflakes even reached Vienna.
Temperatures between minus three and minus ten degrees caused heavy snowfall in the evenings. There was also a strong wind every now and then. Even early in the morning, winter showed its best side and brought plenty of fresh snow.
Avalanche danger in Tyrol
A lot of snow also created a wintery atmosphere in Tyrol and Carinthia. In the lower Ötztal it measured minus ten degrees last night. However, this also increased the avalanche danger to level 3.
25 centimeters of fresh snow
The weather was also very wintery in Salzburg and Vorarlberg and with lots of fresh snow. For example, according to the Austrian Severe Weather Center on Twitter, there was up to 25 centimeters of fresh snow in the Kleinwalsertal.
It remains wintery
It is expected to snow again in large parts of the country in the coming days. Next weekend temperatures will rise to a maximum of four degrees. Precipitation still falls in the form of rain or snow, especially on the north side of the Alps, but also in the southeast.
