“This is a completely grotesque situation,” says the ÖAMTC: air traffic control treats the C12 rescue helicopter in Graz as a sports aircraft. In bad weather he must remain on the ground. Minister Leonore Gewessler is coming under pressure.
The “Krone” has reported several times about how bureaucrats make life difficult for the “Yellow Angels” of the ÖAMTC in Graz. We remember: An old federal law prohibits rescue helicopters from landing at Graz Airport from 11:30 PM to refuel – simply because the tower is no longer occupied from that moment on.
Particularly bizarre: from a purely legal point of view, landing anywhere in Germany would be possible, for example even a few meters away in a meadow, just not at the airport itself. But that’s not all: according to research by the “Steirerkrone”, the helpers are sometimes denied the “permit” even during the day before withdrawal!
