There was a fire in a residential care center in Vienna-Liesing on Monday evening. A 40-year-old resident tragically died. Seven others were rescued in time.
According to fire spokesman Gerald Schimpf, the emergency services were alerted around 1:15 am. According to the professional rescue service and fire brigade, the fire broke out in a social room of the institution for the mentally ill on Karl-Heinz-Straße.
Resuscitation fails
When we arrived the fire, which had broken out for an unknown reason, was already advanced. In addition to extinguishing the fire, residents were rushed to safety and the lifeless body was discovered in an adjacent smoke-filled bedroom.
Resuscitation measures were unsuccessful. The social facility is currently uninhabitable due to the fire.
