The robbery of a bank in Kufstein on Tuesday morning was a bolt of lightning. The only perpetrator managed to escape successfully. Despite a massive manhunt, there is still no trace of him.
The whole thing only lasted a minute or two: around 9:45 a.m. the masked stranger appeared in the counter room of the Volksbank on the Lower Town Square in Kufstein. Without saying a word, he threatened two bank employees with a gun who handed the man a sum of money. The police are keeping a low profile about the size of the loot.
Eyewitness: “Escaped on foot towards the inn”
A passerby then said that he saw the bank robber fleeing on foot towards the Inn. The police do not consider any escape route to be safe; the track was immediately lost despite an enormous search effort. “The Cobra, the Rapid Intervention Group (SIG), dog brigades and numerous police patrols were in action, including across state borders,” said police spokesman Stefan Eder. Roundabouts in Kufstein were checked, as were motorway exits. The police helicopter circled above the fortress city.
The perpetrator wore a black balaclava, a green and beige woolen jacket and dark trousers. It is not yet clear whether the weapon used was real. The state police station accepts all relevant information, call 059133/703333.
In general, such attacks are “going out of fashion”
The number of bank robberies is decreasing year after year. In 2010, there were six more such coups (all resolved). Last year there was one attack (Technikerstrasse in Innsbruck), but in 2021 and 2020 there were no cases in Tyrol. In total, the police have been able to solve ten of the 23 cases since 2010. The risk of robbers is high. . .
