On Friday, the Austrian Association of Municipalities wants to change the statutes during a meeting of the Federal Board, among other things, so that President Alfred Riedl can be voted out. Negotiations about his successor have been going on behind the scenes for a long time. The “Krone” knows the background – and the favorites.
Officially, the chairman of the Austrian Association of Municipalities, Alfred Riedl, will return to his sleeping, but not yet available, office on Friday. The question is how long Riedl, who has come under criticism for real estate transactions exposed by the “Krone” and “Profil”, will continue to hold this position. Because the chairman of the Association of Municipalities cannot currently be voted out, nor can the chairman of the National Council.
Why the changes won’t take effect until later
As reported, an amendment to the articles of association is planned for the meeting of the Federal Council of Governors on December 1, which should now also make it possible to vote out the president (see facsimiles above). However, this deselection would only be possible after a period of approximately four weeks, as the neighborhood association is an association and the change in the articles of association – especially around the Christmas holidays – would still have to be checked by the association police. The representatives of Burgenland – we hear from committee circles – would have preferred to vote Riedl out on Friday.
