A qualified nurse in Salzburg is to be charged with murder by gross negligence. According to the Public Prosecution Service, she did not monitor the patient (50) for more than two hours.
The “Krone” reported on the mysterious death at the end of June 2023: a man (50) came to the sleep laboratory of the pulmonary medicine department of the Salzburg State Clinics (SALK for short) on June 22, 2023 for a diagnostic clarification. The 50-year-old, who had several previous illnesses, died unexpectedly on the night of June 23 – even though he was being monitored with sensors and cameras. Why the man died was and still is unclear.
Self-disclosure is now followed by an indictment
After the state clinics reported the case themselves, the Public Prosecution Service opened an investigation and also requested an expert report. It turned out that the man had probably not been checked for several hours. Because: The Salzburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has – with reference to the monitoring obligations – filed charges against the qualified nurse who was responsible for the man in question that night.
There is a risk of up to three years in prison
Despite being aware of the previous illnesses, she allegedly failed to check the patient’s condition between 3am and 5am. Therefore, according to the indictment, she caused the man’s death through gross negligence. Penalty upon conviction: maximum three years in prison. A trial date has not yet been announced.
