The inmates of the Graz-Jakomini prison provide the employees with a variety of tasks. Recently, someone panicked at the Higher Regional Court. Another prisoner simply floods his cell with water.
The days in the Jakomini prison in Graz are currently extremely busy. Here is an excerpt from the most recent events: The officers recently had to go out with flashing lights to support their colleagues at the Graz High Court (OLG). The appeal hearing of a prisoner (43) for serious bodily harm and resistance to state authority took place there.
The Graz Regional Court sentenced him to 12 months’ partial imprisonment in January for strongly resisting receiving an alternative prison sentence when police arrested him. He tried to free himself from the car, rolled over an officer, then forced open the door and pushed a police officer aside so hard that she hurt her wrist.
Conviction instead of the expected acquittal
During the appeal hearing, he panicked, threw himself on the ground and screamed because he expected an acquittal but did not get one. Prison guards managed to handcuff the irate man in the hall. Colleagues arrived with flashing lights to provide reinforcements and took him to the psychiatric hospital.
There too he caused turbulence, hitting his head on the ground and threatening to kill himself and everyone involved. Reinforcements arrived again with flashing lights to calm him down.
The bailiff is concerned about further incidents
Meanwhile, another prisoner caused his cell to flood by simply turning on the tap and not turning it off. But he soon lost his pleasure – because the officials simply turned off the water supply. A 51-year-old resisted admission to the institution. He threw some objects around, such as jackets and pens, and tried to strike. Shortly afterwards he was also in his cell.
