His salary was only 600 euros, but that was enough to convince a young Moldovan to work as a smuggler transporting nine Kurds. In the autumn he was caught in the Mühlviertel. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old was sentenced to one year of unconditional imprisonment in Linz.
The temptation was too great: 600 euros is almost double a monthly salary for a young Moldovan. That’s why the 19-year-old didn’t say no when he was offered a job as a smuggler in his home country. The man flew to Serbia, where his customers were already waiting at Belgrade airport. In Hungary, nine Kurds got into the Skoda Octavia station wagon and then we left for “Germany”.
Nine Kurds were in a Skoda Octavia
On October 20, the day arrived in Hinterweißenbach (municipality of Vorderweißenbach). Police officers literally pulled the young smuggler and his human cargo out of traffic. Since then, the young Moldovan has been in custody in Linz. On Wednesday he had to answer charges of smuggling and made a full confession.
One-fifth of the maximum penalty
The verdict: one year “spicy”. This corresponds to one fifth of the possible maximum penalty. The time the young person has already spent behind bars will be deducted from this. The suspect and the public prosecutor accepted the verdict.
