No punishment for humans – cat thrown from 22nd floor: “lost control”

Date:

Exercise bikes, dumbbells, books and even his own pet. In a drug frenzy, a 40-year-old threw everything out the window of his 22nd floor apartment building. Although psychiatrist Peter Hofmann testified of insanity, the court did not impose any punishment: the Viennese can go home after the trial.

It was a strange sight that officials saw on July 9 in front of a residential building in Vienna-Brigittenau: numerous objects lay destroyed on the ground, including dumbbells. “When we arrived, we just saw an exercise bike flying out the window,” a police officer recalled on the witness stand.

Own cat thrown from the 22nd floor
The terrible discovery: a 40-year-old also threw his cat from the 22nd floor – he did not survive the fall. “In the perception I was in, I wanted to free her. I thought he would fly away now,” the Viennese tries to explain to the jury in court. A distorted picture that can probably be attributed to a combination of drugs and psychosis.

“I wanted to reduce my alcohol consumption and was looking for a medication that I could take every three days. To become a little more creative in my daily life” – the self-employed person in online marketing picked up the Hawaiian wood rose, LSD-like seeds, in July this year.

Hawaiian wood rose caused psychosis
This drug is the trigger for a psychosis, Florian Kreiner points out the declared insanity of his client – ’he experimented with it. therapeutic facility Center. The crimes: animal abuse, attempted resistance to state authority and attempted bodily harm.

Three days earlier, the person involved – again under the influence of the Hawaiian bush rose – had already clashed with officials. His plane from Croatia landed in Vienna and as soon as he got off he was watched by the police – he shouted wildly on the plane. When he was arrested, he encountered a lot of resistance. “I got louder. I was also a bit rude towards the police,” the 40-year-old recalled differently in the Vienna Regional Court.

“I completely lost control”
Even after throwing several objects and his own cat out of the window, he fought back against the police officers. One was even injured. The man himself said that he had never been in such a state: “I thought I would take it and then fall asleep, but I completely lost control.” When judge Stefan Apostol asked him about the four-legged friend, he answered. in tears, normally he would never have harmed the animal.

In court, psychiatrist Peter Hofmann confirms his report, which confirms the Viennese’s psychosis – caused by drug use: “He has gone completely crazy.” Whether the 40-year-old’s actions were caused by a serious and long-term mental disorder, or just that? Drugs cannot be detected.

No punishment for animal abuse and resistance
He was still not of sound mind, but the judge states: “We cannot rule out that you acted under the influence.” The jury therefore does not legally reject the application for placement in a forensic therapeutic center. The Viennese was released immediately after the trial.

“Is there anyone watching you?” Judge Apostol wants to know. “Yes, my brother” – who sits in the front row of the interrogation room and cannot suppress his tears.
