Well-known Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi was arrested again about a week and a half after his release. The 32-year-old is now accused by the country’s authorities of, among other things, spreading false claims.
The ISNA news agency, run by Iranian university students, reported this on Thursday. After his release in mid-November, Salehi published a video on the Internet in which he made serious accusations against the Iranian judiciary – krone.at reported.

It is said that he was tortured during his captivity. The musician said he had filed a complaint with prison authorities. Salehi was arrested during the wave of protests in autumn 2022 and sentenced to six years in prison. After his release it was said that he could hope for a pardon.

In the past, the rapper had exposed social and political grievances in the country with his critical lyrics. Last year, he expressed solidarity on social media with demonstrators protesting against the government’s repressive course and the Islamic rule system.
Salehi had already been arrested a year earlier, but was then released on bail.
