New scam – police warn: this traffic fine is not real!

Date:

Brazen fraudsters have once again come up with a new scam to extract money from the pockets of their victims. The Viennese police are now warning about fake parking tickets being left on parked vehicles. Please note: Under no circumstances do you pay the requested amount!

Fraudsters often target older victims and use false pretenses to lure money or jewelry out of them. But now road users are probably also high on their list. The perpetrators leave fake parking tickets on parked vehicles.

The letterhead of the LPD Vienna and the police logo are pasted on the alleged traffic fines. The letter also contains a QR code. The victims are asked to pay 25 euros because the alleged police have found a violation regarding incorrect parking.

Do not scan the QR code!
If you then scan the QR code with your smartphone, you will be taken to a payment page where you must provide your own bank details to pay the requested amount.

However, the fraudsters are likely interested not only in the actual amount of money requested, but also in releasing their victims’ personal information.

As police spokesperson Mattias Schuster told krone.at, these types of incidents have already occurred in several districts: “Fortunately, many of those affected recognize the fraud in time, but it is still important for us to warn the population about this new fraud . “

If you still fall into the trap of the scammers, you should immediately contact the nearest police station.
