The management of the Michelin factory in Vitoria proposes holiday and replacement contracts

Date:

The company undertakes not to make any layoffs for reasons related to the decline in production within a period of six months.

The management of the Michelin factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz has proposed incentivized sick leave, geographical mobility measures and reception contracts for the ‘surplus’ of 150 workers it claims are at the factory. In addition, it has committed not to make any redundancies for reasons related to the decline in production within a period of six months.

These measures were presented to the unions by the management of the Michelin factory on Friday during the meeting in the capital Alava.

One of these is ‘prioritizing the functional mobility pIt is also proposed to “give priority to geographical mobility upon voluntary request.” In principle, this measure must be requested before January 7, although the unions have asked for the deadline to be extended.

In turn it is proposed early retirement to those born in 1962, “as long as” this progress “complies with the measures regulated by the aid contract.”

Furthermore, for staff who want that leave voluntarilycompensation of 33 days per year worked is offered, albeit with two limitations: a maximum of 18 monthly payments or 75,000 euros is compensated. People interested in the stimulated withdrawal must also communicate this before January 7.

On the other hand, the company is committed not to layoffs in the next six months due to a drop in production.

Now the works council must decide on December 5 whether the proposal will be accepted. Apparently there are favorable and opposing views, as the company is asking for compensation in return: agreement on the calendars for the year 2024 and a “substantial change” in the proposed working conditions for 659 people.

The president of the works council, Alberto Martín, has made a “positive assessment”, because in his opinion dialogue and negotiation can bear fruit so that none of these “traumatic measures” are implemented.
