“Drone terror” – Selenskyj: Global willingness to help is increasing

Date:

In the face of fierce Russian attacks on his country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the international community’s willingness to help. “The current escalation of Russian missile and drone terror has only prompted the world to respond with new aid to Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in his video address on Tuesday evening. Russia should be forced into serious peace talks, Zelensky said.

Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov reported on Monday evening the receipt of new anti-aircraft systems from the US and Italy. Most recently, Russian missiles and drone strikes had destroyed significant parts of Ukraine’s electricity and water infrastructure. Since then, several million Ukrainians have electricity for only a few hours a day.

Zelenskyy: ‘Stop Russian aggression immediately’
“Russia’s destabilizing influence confronts the world with wars, energy and food crises and the disruption of normal international relations,” the Ukrainian president said. The climate agenda also suffers ‘really’, but cannot be put on hold. “Those who take the climate agenda seriously should also be serious about the need to immediately stop Russian aggression, restore our territorial integrity and force Russia into genuine peace negotiations.”

Zelenskyj also reported success in pushing back Russian forces in the occupied territories of southern and eastern Ukraine. According to him, hundreds of Russians die every day, especially in the Donetsk region. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow, on the other hand, denies such high losses in its own ranks. The towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka are currently the focal points of the heaviest fighting in the Donetsk region.

Russian soldiers receive medals
According to information from Moscow, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has since visited his own soldiers in Ukraine. His ministry released a video on Tuesday showing Shoigu explaining the military situation to him by the new commander of Russian forces in the neighboring country, Sergey Surovikin. The politician also decorated Russian soldiers with medals. The exact location of Shoigu in Ukraine has not been disclosed.

More than eight months after the start of the war of aggression, Russian occupiers are under increasing pressure, especially in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson. Surovikin had already announced “difficult decisions” at the end of October, which observers at the time interpreted as indicating a planned withdrawal. Also on Tuesday, both the Russian and Ukrainian sides reported continued heavy fighting in Kherson.
