National highway closed – avalanche risk: town in the Zillertal not accessible!

Date:

The enormous snowfall in Tyrol also increases the risk of avalanches: for safety reasons, the B169 Zillertal Road between the municipality of Mayrhofen and the Ginzling district had to be closed to all traffic on Saturday morning. The village is therefore closed off from the outside world.

In addition to the acute avalanche danger, the risk of falling trees along the road section is also a reason for the measure. “The duration of the temporary ban cannot be predicted at this time. A bypass is not possible,” the state of Tyrol reported on Saturday afternoon.

Further closures due to avalanche danger
According to the ÖAMTC, there were also avalanche barriers at that time on the B182 Brennerstraße between Stafflach and Brenner and in the Ötztal on the L239 between Längenfeld and Gries.

Road maintenance departments are in constant use
In other parts of Tyrol, due to heavy snowfall, there were and are occasional short-term road closures due to fallen trees, broken branches or broken vehicles.

According to the state, road maintenance services throughout Tyrol are working to keep roads passable.
