Trees on the route – Knittelfeld: Trains are stationary, there is no replacement service

Date:

Passengers left empty-handed at Knittelfeld train station. The trains stood still and did not start moving again so quickly. Replacement rail services were not possible because the roads were also impassable.

“Trains cannot currently run between Judenburg and Thalheim-Pöls. The reason for this is storm damage. “No track replacement service is possible,” it sounds from the loudspeakers at Knittelfeld train station. The last words you want to hear as a passenger if you have been hoping to continue your journey for two hours.

But some waiting travelers busied themselves building snowmen and having snowball fights. Their train was stranded in Knittelfeld for hours. Although it was initially said that the route closure would only last until 2 p.m., train traffic was still at a standstill. This is how a “Krone” editorial reporter described it.

The driver had to clear the snow from the window
Hannes P. was originally on his way from Vienna to Velden to visit family. Everything initially went according to plan until the train conductor in Leoben made an announcement that made the passengers laugh: “We’ll stop here for a moment, the driver has to get out and clear the snow from the window, he can’t see anything. nothing anymore.”

After a few minutes the journey continued. But then the next stop in Knittelfeld: “Unfortunately we cannot drive further for at least 30 minutes, there are four trees on the route.”

“No one can do anything about it”
The train has been standing still ever since. However, Hannes P. showed understanding: “It is snowing a lot and there is a lot of snow on the route. When I started the trip, I expected there might be delays; the ÖBB has also pointed this out. No one can do anything about the snow and trees on the route.”

However, he makes one last suggestion to the ÖBB: “Maybe in the future the ÖBB should cut down trees close to the route, so that something like this cannot happen again.”
