A Christmas video from a Northern Irish pub, filmed on a scratched and old mobile phone, is currently bringing thousands of people around the world to tears.
The video, which has been viewed 8.7 times in one post on X alone, shows an elderly man with a sad expression walking alone through the city and visiting a grave.
Together instead of alone
He then walks to a bar, leaning on a cane, and meets a couple with a dog in front of them. While he is sitting alone at the table for his beer in the bar, the dog is the first to come to him and when the owners notice this, they also sit next to him and start a conversation.
It is a video without words, but tells a powerful and moving story set to the song “People Help The People” by singer Birdy. Who doesn’t cry…
We’ve embedded the video here for you – maybe it will hit you in the run-up to Christmas:
Filmed with an old mobile phone
The two-minute video was filmed by 23-year-old Aoife Teague on her old, scratched mobile phone, which still has an intact camera.
Speaking to the Irish Examiner, the student revealed she had already made a St. Patrick’s Day video for the pub in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, and was now asked again. The owners’ daughter noticed that Christmas can often be a lonely time for people who come to the pub alone. “It’s not always a fun time of year when you don’t have family or friends,” Teague said, explaining how the story came together.
As an old man, they also found the perfect actor in Martin McManus, an amateur actor from the region, who immediately understood the story.
“What we really wanted to convey was that Christmas is a magical time of year, but it also magnifies loss, so it can be an emotional time. “We have conveyed a message of kindness and hopefully everyone who sees it can relate to each character in the video,” she hopes.
