Major Europol operation in 26 countries: 1,250 red-white-red police officers were on duty – and some of them handcuffed serious criminals.
The cumbersome term ‘Joint Action Days – South East Europe’ currently stands for one of the largest international police operations in recent months. A total of 22,488 police officers were deployed in 26 states from November 13 to 18. 566 suspects were targeted, including 218 for smuggling, 186 for drugs and 69 for weapons smuggling.
10,000 checks in Austria
10,000 checks also took place in this country. In Austria alone, 96 people were ultimately arrested, including 28 suspects for criminal offences. The investigators seized approximately twelve kilos of drugs and more than 23,000 euros in cash.
Andreas Holzer, head of the Federal Criminal Police Office, and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner celebrate this: “The figures show how important cross-border cooperation is in the fight against organized crime. We congratulate the police officers and thank them for their great work,” it said.
Further success for the researchers: 163 new investigations were started based on the latest information obtained. So the fight against criminals continues.
