In Vienna winter was also at its best and brought lots of fresh snow at night. In Gars am Kamp, Lower Austria, temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees were measured in the morning hours. At the same time, however, the bitter cold also caused some accidents. For example, a massive collision took place between several trucks in Tyrol.
Heavy snowfall
There is hardly an end in sight as weather experts expect further heavy snowfall across the country and temperatures in the minus range in the coming days.
It is damp and cold Tuesday further. In the east the sun is only partially visible. Freezing rain and heavy snow pose a risk of icy conditions on the roads from Vorarlberg to Upper Austria. The wind is usually only weak to moderate. The temperatures are between 0 and minus two degrees.
It remains cloudy and wintry Wednesday. Some snow falls at low elevations, especially in the east. From the west, some snow or sleet showers are also moving towards the Salzkammergut and Upper Styria.
Also the Thursday starts with dense clouds in the west and north of the country. Rain or snow showers are also possible until the afternoon. Yet temperatures rise to plus 6 degrees. The sun is also becoming more common. It gets warmest in Vorarlberg.
