A 32-year-old has been in court in Linz since Wednesday for attempted murder, because he allegedly tried to stab his wife’s 43-year-old ex-boyfriend in early March. The victim suffered possibly fatal injuries to his back. The suspect claims not to have stabbed.
Apparently the Chechen resident wanted to get rid of his alleged rival out of jealousy. The 32-year-old reportedly informed the victim on the morning of March 8 that he would come now. The suspect’s friend and neighbor is suspected of helping him. The murder weapon with a seven-centimeter blade came from the 46-year-old compatriot, which he has so far denied. He also allegedly took the attacker to the crime scene in his car, waited nearby and then drove him home.
The prosecutor sees murder intent
The prosecutor said he was convinced that the two defendants wanted to “eliminate an unpleasant rival.” The victim, a cousin of the second suspect, was apparently in a relationship with the current wife of the main suspect and with a woman with whom the second suspect is said to have had an affair. The prosecutor explained that the two were correspondingly angry with the 43-year-old. Threats were repeatedly made against him.
“Sneaky attack”
On March 8, the situation came to a head when the 32-year-old asked his friend to drive him to the hated man’s workshop in Haid, near Linz. Once there, he ran through the workshop straight into the office with the 46-year-old’s knife and tried to stab the sitting victim in the head. He managed to fend off the attack and then the suspect stabbed him “with full force, brutally in the back”.
A witness was then able to take the knife, after which the attacker fled and got into the waiting man’s car. They then drove away ‘as if nothing had happened’, as the prosecutor described the events. You can count it lucky that the injured man ‘survived the sneak attack’, he appealed to the jury’s ‘common sense’.
Convicted several times
The public prosecutor described the man, who has been convicted several times – twice for bodily harm – as “aggressive”, and that he is now on trial for attempted murder as “the highlight of his career”. Prison guards also felt his violence in April after a negotiation to extend his pre-trial detention, when the 32-year-old kicked and injured officers on the way back to the cell, which is also the subject of the main hearing. The Financial Public Prosecutor’s Office has joined the proceedings as a private party and is demanding almost 3,190 euros for the civil servants’ loss of income.
‘I certainly didn’t want to kill’
The victim’s lawyer, who was still traumatized, also demanded partial compensation of 4,000 euros from both suspects. The main suspect continued to deny that he wanted to kill the alleged rival. He doesn’t want to know him personally, but the man has been harassing his wife, which has bothered him. The lawyer also assured that his client “certainly did not want to kill.” He cited a video of the workshop incident as evidence.
Knives used as “brass knuckles”.
It shows how the 32-year-old used the knife, which was closed, as ‘brass knuckles’. Until late summer, “the Public Prosecution Service still assumed that there was intentional serious bodily harm,” the lawyer said. The second defendant wants nothing to do with this anyway. His lawyer pleaded not guilty and denied “any intention to contribute to an attempted murder.”
Murder weapon not found
The 46-year-old allegedly assumed that he had only driven his neighbor to the workshop because he had something to clarify. And as for the murder weapon, the knife didn’t come from his client; it hasn’t even been found yet. The trial will last two days, the verdict is scheduled for December 12, possibly on the evening of December 6.
