A whirlwind of coincidences: Last year a conference simulated the outbreak of a modified monkeypox virus. This causes wild speculation on the internet about an alleged conspiracy.
The Covid pandemic isn’t over yet, but the wild claims about its origins and vaccines have faded. But with Monkeypox, some social media users and relevant platforms have found a new topic. They are convinced that the new distribution was planned.
The reason for this is an exercise simulation that took place as part of the Munich Security Conference in March 2021. It was organized by the non-profit organization NTI (Nuclear Threat Initiative), which is committed to securing international peace through catastrophic attacks or accidents involving biological, nuclear and chemical weapons.
During the exercise, experts re-enacted a fictional outbreak of biologically engineered monkeypox. What drives conspiracy theorists: The outbreak time was theoretically May 15, 2022. The fact is, however, that worldwide simulations are carried out every year with countless other diseases and viruses.
