A father probably wanted to remove the snow from the solar panels – a project that turned out to be fatal. A father in Herzogsdorf is said to have died while shoveling the photovoltaic system on the roof of his farm, but not from a fall.
The 45-year-old was clearing snow from the PV installation on the roof of the wood chip hut on Tuesday evening around 8 p.m., the police confirmed. When he didn’t surface, his family went looking for him and found him lying motionless on the roof. The rescue service, emergency doctor and fire brigade immediately rushed to the scene of the accident. The emergency doctor tried to resuscitate the 45-year-old, unfortunately without success. He died on the spot and is said to have left behind a wife and two children. It is still unclear why the man collapsed on the roof.
Do not underestimate the load when shoveling
It wasn’t until early this week that the medical association drew attention to the dangers of snow removal. People with heart disease in particular should exercise caution, because angina pectoris (heart tightness) usually occurs under stress. Anyone who feels chest pain while shoveling snow should not underestimate it, even if it disappears after a short rest. “Angina is a serious and serious condition that requires immediate medical attention,” says Dr. Adrian Mirtl, general practitioner in Linz and Puchenau.
PV systems may not be demolished
The thick layer of snow on the solar panels currently reduces the amount of solar energy generated. Wolfgang Denk from Netz OÖ GmbH confirmed to ORF that more energy currently needs to be generated from hydropower or wind energy. The specific failure of the individual systems depends on how steep the roof is or which direction the panels are aligned. The spokesperson advises against creating the systems. The chance of you falling or being injured is too great and the sensitive plates can also be damaged.
