Elections in March – Putin will be a candidate for another six years

Date:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will run for reelection. The presidential elections are scheduled for March 15 and 17. The 71-year-old has no serious rivals. The opposition has announced a campaign against Putin’s re-election (see video above).

‘Russia without Putin’ is the name of the campaign around jailed opposition activist Alexei Navalny, in which citizens are expected to vote for any candidate. Navalny’s team called on everyone in Russia to convince other opponents of Putin to go to the polls in the next 100 days. A website has been created that explains how you can vote. The elections are a parody. “But every election, even the most fraudulent, is a time of doubt. “People think about who is in power and why,” the report said.

The opposition and honest citizens must make it clear to people that Putin is damaging the country. “For Putin, the 2024 elections are a referendum on his actions, on the war,” the appeal said. “The voting results will be falsified, but our job is to make it clear to everyone that Russia no longer needs Putin.”

In power since 1999
Putin was appointed his successor by then-President Boris Yeltsin on New Year’s Eve 1999. Since then, he has shaped Russia’s destiny as president and sometimes as prime minister. Putin had the constitution changed specifically to return to power.

If Putin completes another six-year term in the Kremlin, he will overtake Joseph Stalin, who led the Soviet Union from 1924 to 1953. It is the first time that elections in Russia are held in three days. The official from the Moscow-occupied Donetsk region has asked Putin to allow people in the area to also participate in the elections.

State television has been showing programs for days in which citizens promise to re-elect the incumbent president. Even before the elections, the Kremlin traditionally tries to organize a field of participants to create the appearance of selection. In the 2018 elections, Putin received 76.69 percent of the votes. The president presents himself, among other things, as a champion of American supremacy ambitions and NATO’s eastern expansion. The West is stylized as an enemy.
