Four-legged friend “Leo” dead – future lifesaver fell victim to a poison attack

Date:

He would have had a great future as a rescue dog and possibly saved many people from death. Now nine-month-old Labrador mix “Leo” is dead and poisoned.

“How cruel can people be?” is the question currently being asked mainly by the Lower Austrian rescue dog team. Because one of her colleagues is grieving a particularly painful loss. Her “Lion” was poisoned and had to be rescued a short time later. The family’s second dog probably got something too. He was saved, but is still dealing with the after-effects.

The drama probably took place in the dog park in Deutsch-Wagram in the Gänserndorf district. The two four-legged friends were running around there when their health continued to deteriorate. What they caught is currently unclear. Likewise whether it was a targeted attack by a dog hater. But it was poison, as was later discovered.

On the way to being a lifesaver
The fact is that “Leo”, who comes from animal protection, does not only leave a big gap with his foster family. At just nine months old, the Labrador mix was on her way to becoming a real lifesaver. His owner is active with the rescue dogs of Lower Austria and was currently training the four-legged friend to search for areas. “He has just learned to report when he smells human odors,” explains rescue dog manager Karin Kuhn. One of her dogs also fell victim to a poison attack some time ago: “Luckily he survived.”

In addition to the sadness, there is also great anger among club colleagues. “These are not rosy times for dog owners at the moment; the gap between animal haters and owners is widening. We cannot find words for this act,” Kuhn said.
