On Monday evening, the residents of a semi-detached house in Lustenau reported that the exhaust pipe of the gas boiler had come loose. They did not smell any gas, but measurements by the Lustenau fire brigade showed that the carbon monoxide level was around 500 ppm (parts per million). According to the rescuers, this value can lead to loss of consciousness.
Despite the quick intervention of the Florianijüngers, the loosening of the exhaust pipe and the gas leak were not without consequences: the residents of the two semi-detached houses, a family with two small children and a family with a small child, were taken to the taken to hospital. Hospitals in Dornbirn and Bregenz with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

While the residents were being cared for in the hospital, the semi-detached house was ventilated by the fire brigade and the main gas tap was turned off. The Lustenau fire brigade was on duty with four vehicles and 25 men. An emergency medical team was also on site.
