A snow storm on Friday severely affected traffic in northern Spain. The Pyrenees of Navarra on the border with France were especially hard hit. There are problems on the A15 highway and several country roads, and three mountain passes have been closed, the regional government in Pamplona said.
The snow storm that has been raging since Thursday evening initially continued on Friday. He covered the streets, parks and rooftops of the city of Pamplona, which has a population of 200,000, and other communities in Navarre with a coat of white.
But not only Navarre experienced a late winter in Spain. The national weather service, the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), has issued severe weather warnings for many areas in nine of the country’s 17 regions for Friday and the weekend.
Orange warning level for Mallorca
Residents of affected areas are warned about extreme cold, snow, strong winds and high waves. Orange warning level also applies to the Balearic Islands with the holiday island of Mallorca. According to AEMET, waves of up to eight meters are expected there. With temperatures of up to 19 degrees, tourists went into the sea in Málaga and other southern Spanish coastal cities on Friday.
