Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s travel marathon continues: after the Ukrainian president was a guest in Argentina on Monday and in the US on Tuesday, he unexpectedly arrived on Wednesday morning for a new visit to the Norwegian capital Oslo, where he took part in a meeting with Scandinavian heads of state.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and the Prime Ministers of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland are expected at this summit. The primary emphasis should be on Nordic cooperation in defense and security.
Audience with King Harald V
Bilateral meetings are also planned with Zelenskyj, where further support to Ukraine will be discussed, among other things. According to the Norwegian royal family, an audience with King Harald V at the Royal Palace of Oslo was also on the agenda.
Strong support for Ukraine from Scandinavia
Northerners have repeatedly supported Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s war of aggression with military equipment and aid packages. Zelensky traveled to Copenhagen in August to thank Denmark for its long-term support and commitments to supply F-16 fighter jets.
He last met the assembled leaders of the Nordic countries at a Nordic-Ukrainian summit in Helsinki in May. According to the Finnish President’s Office, the Oslo summit now represents a continuation of this format and according to Norwegian media, it is Zelenskyj’s first visit to Norway.
