Favorites nervous – Trump vs. Biden: Is she the laughing third party?

Date:

For a long time it looked like a repeat of the duel between Joe Biden and Donald Trump for the presidency in the US, but now the tide seems to be turning. Instead of the expected duel between old men, a challenger is increasingly emerging in the form of Republican Nikki Haley – and shining with surprising poll numbers.

“I love all the attention guys. “Thank you for that,” former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said in a televised debate last week, thanking her internal party competitors. The reason for this is the constant fire she had to expose herself to recently.

In a duel with Biden, she would clearly come first
And the attacks are no coincidence: Not only can the former UN ambassador be happy with the rising poll numbers, her approval rating is literally going up – and has now overtaken Trump’s most promising challenger yet (according to surveys in New Hampshire and South Carolina ). Ron DeSantis.

As the “Wall Street Journal” reported, the inspired politician would currently emerge as the clear winner in a direct match against the incumbent Biden – currently 51 to 34 percent. However, Trump would only have a four-point lead (47 to 43).

Can anyone surpass Trump?
This also did not go unnoticed by the challengers. This resulted in a heated discussion in the most recent TV debates. Personal attacks and topics such as the war in Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Hamas and the situation at the southern border of the US shaped the debate. Haley and DeSantis mainly competed to present themselves as the main alternative to the still absent ex-President Trump, who still has a clear lead over his opponents in Republican internal polls.

But who is the previously unknown ex-governor of South Carolina? By the end of August, she was down to just two percent in the polls – the daughter of Indian immigrants’ remarkable rise began with her first appearances in TV debates. Her government responsibilities were followed by two years as Trump’s UN ambassador, during which she worked on the international stage.

Could Biden steal important votes
As a moderate conservative, she was able to steal important votes from Biden – unlike Trump. Additionally, Democratic-leaning voters are more likely to prefer a woman (five percent of Republicans versus 31 percent of Democrats). Politically, Haley is taking a hard line toward China, Russia and Iran, especially in the area of foreign policy. In terms of economic policy, however, she is on the same page as Trump – but is clearly committed to NATO and Europe and is considered the most tolerant candidate in her party on domestic policy, especially in the heated abortion debate.

Billionaire whisperer
And the 51-year-old is also financially healthy. She was recently able to gain an important support network from conservative billionaire Charles Koch (best known for his oil trading) – who is not only considered influential, but also has a lot of money. It has already raised $70 million for the Republican primaries. The die for a preliminary decision in Trump’s favor has not yet fallen.
