Sea of flames on the Tauern highway near Spittal an der Drau: A panel van caught fire for an unknown reason – a driver had warned the driver about smoke.
The driver of the van initially did not know what the passing driver was trying to convey to him with his hand gestures. But when smoke suddenly came out of the ventilation slot on the dashboard, the 39-year-old immediately stopped the vehicle on the right side. And was able to jump out of the car just in time.
Within a few seconds, meter-high flames suddenly erupted from the engine compartment – and the vehicle, which was full of newspapers, was completely on fire a short time later. The fire brigades of Seeboden and Lendorf arrived on site with a total of 30 men and managed to bring the fire under control. The van burned down completely.
