Clarification required – The Tyrolean AK president calls for the Tiwag-U Commission

Date:

AK President Erwin Zangerl wants to shed light on the ‘darkness of electricity’ and has a number of explosive questions for the energy supplier and the country. An extensive catalog of questions must provide understandable answers.

Tyrolean AK President Erwin Zangerl is not giving up the fight for lower electricity prices. After the AK Tirol had already filed lawsuits against the state energy supplier, it called on Wednesday for a commission of inquiry into Tiwag – in accordance with the budget of the state parliament. Zangerl is concerned about the increases in electricity prices, the current contract terminations and the planned expansion of the power station in the Kaunertal.

“This is about the country’s resources, such as water – and in that sense also about the wealth of the Tyroleans. They all have the right to know what happens to their property.” Most importantly from his point of view: Tiwag could easily provide the Tyroleans with cheap energy. “Why doesn’t she?” Zangerl wants to know. He calls on the state parliament parties to provide clarity and clarify Tiwag’s role through an investigative committee. “It must become clear what verification options the land actually has and therefore whether and how it protects the interests of the owners,” says Zangerl.

Terminations, lawsuits, settlement offers
He also wants to know how exactly the electricity price is determined; According to the original plan, it should have suddenly become four times as expensive in February as before. “If Tiwag had complied with the legal requirements regarding the necessary transparency regarding electricity prices for its existing customers, it would not have had to implement cancellations at all to obtain legal certainty. Because that was the reason for us to file a lawsuit in the first place. If we had accepted Tiwag’s last comparison offer, she would now be right and the customers would still have no certainty. We couldn’t accept that. It is time for light to come into the darkness,” emphasizes Erwin Zangerl.

Questionnaire developed
To save the parties work, AK Tirol has already drawn up an extensive list of questions. Such as: Why does Tiwag want an electricity price increase that makes electricity four times more expensive than before, even though the latest balance sheet shows a profit of 181 million euros – twice as much as in 2020? What’s behind it and why is it covered by the owner? Or: Why does TIWAG have to export almost all of its electricity generation and then import electricity again at high costs for Tyrolean households? And: How much does it cost per kilowatt hour of self-produced electricity from local power stations? These are actually very exciting questions – it will be interesting to see if there are any answers. Understandable answers!

The Neos and the FPÖ already expressed their approval for the AK proposal on Wednesday. “We will of course support this,” emphasized Dominik Oberhofer (Neos) and Markus Abwerzger (FP).
