The exclusive Noord -Italian holiday destination Portofino has issued a new regulation that applies from 14 July to 30 September. It aims to maintain the elegant image of world function.
Portofino fights for his image as an exclusive travel destination. Among other things, the municipality prohibits any form of beggar during this period, even if it is not intrusive. The prohibition applies in particular in the historic center, in public parking spaces and near churches.
According to Mayor Matteo Viacava, the tourist attractiveness of the location on the Ligurian Riviera must be protected and inappropriate behavior in public spaces, as the daily newspaper “Secolo XIX” reported on Monday. However, the regulation goes much further than the prohibition on begging.
No alcohol on the street
It is also forbidden to Bivouacage in public. Sitting or lying on the floor, benches, walls or under arcades is also prohibited. Moreover, no alcohol may be consumed or worn on the street and places – regardless of the alcohol content of the drink.
Punishment for swimwear
Anyone who walks to the upper body, in swimwear or barefoot in the city, also violates the new regulation and will be punished. Loud sounds are also prohibited after 00:30. If you do not comply with the guidelines, you must expect fines between 25 and 500 euros.
Increasing social exclusion
The measures are part of an extensive approach to receive Portofino as an exclusive travel destination for rich international guests. Critics, on the other hand, see this increasing social exclusion and questions about whether the protection of the image can be at the expense of fundamental freedom.
