He loses his son – and becomes an accused himself. After the tragic death of 17-year-old Riccardo from Rome, the next shock comes for his father: the judiciary investigates him. What the authorities call a mandatory clock touches a broken man in the heart.
On the beach of Montalto di Castro, near Rome, it happened: Riccardo (17) digs a hole in the sand -for his small five and eight -year -old brothers. But suddenly the floor goes on. One and a half meters deep. The boy is buried. Minutes later he is dead.
Riccardo has only been on a camping holiday with his family for two days. After lunch he started digging a deep well with his little brothers and sisters – later he apparently tried to form a tunnel. Then there was a fatal collapse. The teenager was suddenly gone, the sand walls had buried him.
It was a tragic beach accident, but still has criminal consequences. And for the father. The Carabinieri brought him the news at the campsite – in the middle of the mourning for his son.
“I didn’t kill my son!”
“What please? I am an accused? This is inhumane!”, The father is stunned. He no longer understands the world. He has just tried to make his four children happy on vacation – now he is suspected of negligent murder.
Explosive: According to his own explanation, the father was only about two meters away, but noticed nothing – probably slept. Only when the five-year-old brother pointed to the site of the well did the desperate search for the spilled 17-year-old.
The father was now confronted with the researchers and wants to help understand: “What happened in this damn gap? Was it the heat, overload, a weakness? Why didn’t he scream? I was there.”
The public prosecutor speaks about an “Atto Dovuto” – a necessary legal step that is necessary because Riccardo was a minor. Two articles of the Criminal Code were quoted: Article 589 (negligent killing) and Article 40, paragraph 2: Non -jamming an event is considered by law as being established.
Public Prosecutor: “I want to hug him”
The responsible public prosecutor Alberto Liguori shows understanding whether the law wants to alleviate: “The first thing I will do when I see him is hugging him.” Liguori emphasizes: The father has already suffered the worst punishment. The display is only necessary to properly guide the autopsy and the clarification correctly. “We are mainly concerned with clarifying whether the boy collapsed before the gap collapses.”
The father is already offended on social networks: “He slept while his son died …” – said an anonymous comment. Public Prosecutor Liguori has therefore instructed the police to deliver the advertisement particularly carefully – for fear of a possible suicide action.
“The father has already suffered an infinite punishment,” said Liguori. “We only do what is needed.”
