More than two days after an unprecedented act of sabotage, millions of customers of Ukraine’s largest mobile phone provider Kyivstar are still without mobile telephony and internet. Even in the capital Kiev, no connection via Kyivstar was possible on Thursday.
The company’s website was also not operational normally and only contained a warning. Kyivstar had announced a partial network restoration the night before, starting with phone calls.
On Tuesday morning, Kievstar’s network was completely shut down after a suspected Russian act of sabotage. According to its own information, the provider has more than 24 million subscribers. The failure of mobile internet is considered unprecedented in the country’s history. Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression for more than 21 months.
