An athlete training in the outdoor pool in Braunau and the two lifeguards Helmut Assigal (45) and Philipp Koren (27) became lifesavers at the start of this year’s bathing season. A woman, about 40 years old, apparently had health problems while swimming and went down without yelling for help or flapping her arms.
A triathlete who was also in the pool noticed the accident first and pulled the woman out of the water and carried her to shore. There, first the younger and then the older lifeguard came to the rescue and started CPR.
These were crowned with success and the victim regained consciousness before the alarmed rescue services arrived. The rescued person has been taken to hospital, the two rescuers are happy that everything turned out well.
