Risk of overload – Selenskyj calls on Ukrainians to save electricity

Date:

In light of ongoing Russian missile strikes in several Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on his compatriots to save electricity. This is especially important in the evenings to prevent overload. He also wants to increase grain exports – this is important to fight hunger, Selenskyj emphasized.

Zelenskyy had no news to report from the front. He confessed to heavy fighting around the towns of Bakhmut and Soledar in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army is attacking. Therefore, he asked his compatriots to save electricity. “Due to the Russian missile terror, in some cities and regions of Ukraine, it is necessary to limit the electricity supply in order for the whole system to function stably,” he said. Especially during the peak hours in the evening it is necessary to save electricity, otherwise overload would occur and the electricity companies would be forced to switch off.

Grain exports must be reduced
While the war continues to hamper exports, Ukraine has exported nearly eight million tons of food by sea since the Grains Agreement came into effect, Zelenskyy said in his daily video address on Sunday. “That’s more than 300 ships. 60 percent of the amount went to Africa and Asia.” He announced that he would continue to expand exports.

Just a few days ago, Russia threatened to stop the grain deal and block Ukrainian ports again. There are two reasons for this. In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke of a “scam”. The agreement on the easing of sanctions against Russian food and fertilizers is not being respected. Most recently, the Kremlin chief also cited the statement that Ukraine likely smuggled the explosives for the attack on the Crimean Bridge by sea. Selenskyj commented on the importance of Ukrainian grain exports for fighting hunger.
