Trial in Innsbruck – cyclist tries to rob with crutches

Date:

A drunk 15-year-old tried to steal a cyclist’s backpack. After the first day of the trial in July last year, he was sentenced this week in Innsbruck.

Intoxicated and under the influence of drugs, the then 15-year-old orphan pushed a cyclist with his crutches against a bridge wall and demanded her backpack. He hit pedestrians who intervened with his walking aids. He is said to have resisted arrest and even bit a police officer in the hand.

“I’m ashamed and I’m sorry.”
The suspect could not remember anything during the first hearing in July: “I am ashamed and I am sorry.” Alcohol usually makes him funny, in need of hugs and love – which clearly wasn’t the case at the time of the crime. Witnesses said: “It seemed to me that the accused was absent and did not know what he was doing.” Judge Andrea Steffan ordered a sanity assessment.

For attempted “minor” robbery
On the second day of the trial, the now 16-year-old was found guilty of an attempted “minor” robbery. However, he has developed very well since July. The court imposed a prison sentence of eight months, all of which were commuted with probation. In addition, there is an instruction: The young person must undergo psychotherapeutic treatment. The verdict is already final.
