Up to 50 meters deep – Israel discovers Hamas’ largest tunnel to date

Date:

Israeli forces have discovered an unusually large tunnel. The army showed reporters the exit of the structure, hidden in a dune 100 meters south of the Erez border crossing. It is the largest tunnel discovered so far, military spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

The tunnel will be up to 50 meters deep, three meters high and in some places wide and electrified. The length is given as four kilometers. “Millions of dollars have been invested in this tunnel. “It took years to build this tunnel (…) for vehicles to drive through,” Hagari continued.

Israeli officials also released moving images:

Meanwhile, Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila called for an investigation following allegations of an alleged deadly use of a bulldozer by the Israeli army in Gaza.

Run people over with a bulldozer?
The Israeli army used a bulldozer in the courtyard of the Kamal Adwan hospital to destroy the tents of displaced people and also kill people, Al-Jazeera news channel reported on Sunday, citing doctors and eyewitnesses.

About 20 people were killed, including some injured, the report said. When asked, the Israeli military did not comment on the allegations, which could not be independently verified.

Health Minister Al-Kaila called for an international investigation and urged the world community not to ignore reports of war crimes in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. According to eyewitnesses and medical teams, the Palestinians were ‘buried alive’.

Aid convoy via Kerem Shalom
The first aid convoy entered the Gaza Strip on Sunday through the Israeli Kerem Shalom border crossing. A representative of the Egyptian Red Crescent said 79 trucks were headed to Palestinian territory. Israel said on Friday it would “temporarily” allow the delivery of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip through the border crossing.

Kerem Shalom was previously used to check trucks before they were sent to the city of Rafah, on the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

Rafah has so far been the only border crossing through which aid supplies have reached the Palestinian territory. Before the radical Islamist Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 60 percent of goods destined for the coastal area were processed through the Kerem Shalom checkpoint, located in the triangle between the borders of the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
