The World Health Organization (WHO) has accused Israel of destroying a hospital in the Gaza Strip. “WHO is shocked by the effective destruction of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza in recent days, rendering it unusable and leading to the deaths of at least eight patients,” wrote WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the platform on Sunday evening.
The patients, including a nine-year-old child, died due to inadequate medical care. Israel rejected the criticism. Israel’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva accused Tedros on
Weapon discovered in incubator in baby department
Before the Israeli army entered the area, a dialogue took place in coordination with the medical teams. The military had allowed a humanitarian counter and most of the hospital had been evacuated. 90 terrorists were arrested in the area. “Israel also destroyed the terrorists’ infrastructure and found, among other things, numerous weapons and intelligence documents hidden in the incubators in the neonatal ward.”
The Israeli army showed in a video how a soldier retrieves a weapon from an incubator in the neonatal ward:
Tedros: Loss of hospital “serious blow”
Tedros wrote on X that many health workers have reportedly been arrested. Many patients would have to evacuate themselves, at great risk to their health and safety, because ambulances would not be able to reach the facility. “Gaza’s healthcare system was already in shambles, and the loss of another even minimally functioning hospital is a major blow,” Tedros wrote. “The attacks on hospitals, medical staff and patients must stop. NOW a truce.”
Only eleven of the 36 hospitals are in operation
Al-Jazeera news channel had previously reported that the Israeli army had used a bulldozer to destroy the tents of displaced people in the courtyard of the Kamal Adwan hospital (see article below), killing twenty people. When asked, the Israeli military did not comment on the allegations, which could not be independently verified. According to the WHO, only 11 of the Gaza Strip’s 36 hospitals are currently partially operational.
Israel: Hamas’s largest tunnel system discovered
The army had previously announced that Israeli forces had uncovered Hamas’ largest tunnel system during their military operation in the Gaza Strip. The military said Sunday that the facility was more than four kilometers long and about 50 meters deep and was located near the Erez border crossing between Israel and the closed coastal area. According to media reports, the approximately three-meter-wide tunnel route ends in Jabalia. The refugee district in the north of the Gaza Strip is considered a Hamas stronghold.
The Gaza war was sparked by the worst massacre in Israel’s history, which Hamas terrorists and other extremist groups carried out in Israel on October 7. Israel responded with massive airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in late October.
