The mountain rescue service in the Vorarlberg municipality of Gargellen had to rescue two German winter sports enthusiasts from a stream bed on Sunday. After a 27-year-old skier fell and ended up in the stream, rescuers had to rescue his father-in-law from the stream a short time later at the same spot.
At around 1:05 p.m., a 27-year-old German skier was skiing downhill on slope number 6 in the Sulfurtobel area of the Gargellen ski area. The man fell due to a driving error, went over the right edge of the track and fell over an adjacent ravine into the stream bed there. The winter sports enthusiast was rescued by the slope rescue team and had to be flown to the state hospital in Bludenz with the rescue helicopter “Robin 1” with injuries to his hand and hip. But it should not be the only effort of the mountain rescuers on this day and at this point…
Incorrigible father-in-law
Shortly before the rescue work was completed, the ski crash pilot’s father-in-law walked from the valley to the accident site. The man wanted to retrieve his son-in-law’s skis from the stream and was not stopped by the piste rescue teams. While trying to get into the stream bed, the man fell and suffered a laceration to his head. He then also had to be rescued by the pister rescue team and taken in an ambulance to the state hospital in Bludenz – where his son-in-law had already been taken.
