A man (34) was found bleeding heavily from a wound on his thigh in Vienna-Ottakring on Monday afternoon. According to witness statements, the injured man was dropped off on the sidewalk by a man and he fled. The police gave chase…
Thanks to the accurate witness statements, officers from the Ottakring city police command were able to find the suspect – a 39-year-old Algerian – in a nearby house entrance. When the man saw the police officers, he allegedly tried to run away. However, the suspect failed to do so: he was caught.
Victim taken to hospital
In the meantime, the 34-year-old had to receive emergency medical care from the professional rescue team. He was then taken to hospital.
Blood trails led to the knife
The police were able to discover traces of blood at the entrance of the house where the suspected perpetrator was arrested. These led the emergency services to an apartment in the house. Ultimately, a blood-stained kitchen knife was found in the apartment.
“Imprisoned for pretrial detention”
The suspect still denies the fact. “The 39-year-old was placed in pre-trial detention on the orders of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Vienna police said on Tuesday.
