A 12-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed a classmate of the same age at a school in the US state of South Carolina. The motive for the crime was initially unclear. The suspect from Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville has been arrested and charged, among other things, with murder and unlawful possession of a gun as a person under the age of 18, the sheriff’s office said Thursday evening (local time).
A school security guard heard shots fired around noon and called for backup. Emergency services found the victim injured on arrival. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police officers found the alleged perpetrator after a search of a residential building and arrested him. A weapon has been seized.
