A 20-year-old stole a car in Gleisdorf (Styria) on Tuesday afternoon. Because he caused an accident in Graz with this stolen vehicle, the crime and the damage were resolved for an amount of tens of thousands of euros. The man is in custody.
The 20-year-old, who lives in the Weiz district, went to a car dealer around noon. There he stole a car with a sample license plate. The dealer immediately called the police emergency number. Officials from the Gleisdorf police station then conducted the necessary investigations. The search measures initiated were initially negative.
Accident caused
About half an hour after the theft, Eastern Styria caused a traffic accident with the stolen mid-range car with material damage in the vicinity of the LKH Graz. The suspect did not want to identify himself to the second person involved. When the accident was registered, police officers from the Andritz police station discovered that the 20-year-old had no driver’s license at all. They then contacted the license plate holder of the sample license plate. He reported that the vehicle involved in the accident was the car that had just been stolen in Gleisdorf.
Arrested
The police arrested the suspect and transferred him to the Gleisdorf police station. During the investigation, the man was clearly identified as a strong suspect and he was interrogated on suspicion of car theft. The official did not provide any information.
The Graz Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the person’s transfer to Graz-Jakomini prison.
