An Israeli army camera recorded the cries for help of three hostages. Five days later the prisoners were dead – accidentally shot by Israeli forces. This was probably a war crime.
As reported, Israeli soldiers illegally shot the three hostages in Shejaiya on Friday. One held a stick with a white piece of cloth in her hand. According to the Hague Code for Land War, someone flying a white flag cannot be harmed.
It has now become known that the hostages’ cries for help were recorded a few days before their deaths. During a struggle, an army search dog with a body camera was sent into a building, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said Thursday evening. “The terrorists shot the dog and from then on we heard the voices of the hostages.”
Dog killed
The dog was killed during the operation and the camera was found and evaluated on Tuesday. According to the army spokesman, the building is about a kilometer away from the spot where the hostages were later shot. After analyzing the recordings, the Israeli army believes that the men holding the hostages were killed in the incident. The prisoners were then able to escape from the building.
Terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other groups abducted about 240 people to the Gaza Strip on October 7. 105 of them were released during a ceasefire in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli government believes that more than a hundred hostages are still being held.
Evacuations ordered from Khan Younis
The Israeli army has now ordered large-scale evacuations from the city of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip. According to the UN, maps were published on Wednesday showing that at least 20 percent of the city area needs to be evacuated. Before the fighting started, more than 11,000 people lived in the affected area. There are also 32 emergency shelters housing more than 140,000 internally displaced people, mainly from the north of the Gaza Strip.
On Wednesday, ground, air and naval strikes were carried out against “dozens of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure” in Khan Younis, the Israeli military said. The army had also previously announced it would step up attacks on targets in the city.
