Countless partygoers had to flee the Viennese club “U4” into the open air on Thursday evening. The fire brigade quickly gave the signal: no one was injured in the club or in a fitness studio.
The boundless pre-Christmas party atmosphere of young people came to an abrupt end on Thursday evening in Meidlinger Schönbrunner Straße. The party crowd was dancing to popular songs from the 80s and 90s in the cult club “U4” when thick clouds of smoke spread over the dance floor around midnight. The bar’s owners responded with presence of mind by informing the Viennese fire brigade, but had already evacuated the entire club outside before they arrived.
The dumpster was on fire
When the Florianis arrived with a total of five cars and searched the building, which also houses a fitness studio, it quickly became clear: the fire itself had not broken out. A container had been set on fire in a waste room. Although the fire produced heavy smoke, no other people had to be evacuated. Luckily the gym had closed its doors a few minutes earlier.
After the fire the party continued
According to spokesman Gerald Schimpf, the professional fire brigade still combed the entire building. The affected waste containers have been brought outside and extinguished. Even though not everyone felt like it, the party was allowed to continue afterwards in the “U4”.
