Climate activist Martha Krumpeck will spend Christmas Eve in prison in Vienna. As the previous generation said, Krumpeck will not be released until the morning of Christmas Day, December 25. The organization initially assumed she would be released from prison before Christmas.
Krumpeck was arrested along with other activists on November 13. She was actually supposed to stay in custody for only four days due to various administrative violations, but then her stay in prison was extended.
One month in prison for ‘attempted coercion’
In October, Krumpeck was sentenced by the Frankfurt court to one month in prison for ‘attempted coercion’. The trial concerned a protest in April 2022 in which she blocked roads together with scientists from the group Scientist Rebellion. They took to the streets to draw attention to the climate crisis.
It was Krumpeck’s second prison sentence for a climate protest. It was not until the beginning of May that she had to serve a two-week prison sentence in Vienna. A few minutes after her release, she glued herself to the street at the next protest.
