Dutch customs have seized almost 1.2 tons of cocaine. The drugs had a street value of around 90 million euros, the responsible public prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
During a regular check in the port of Rotterdam, the researchers found exactly 1,197 kilograms of cocaine in a container with bananas that came from Ecuador. The fruits would be transported to Ukraine.
Drugs have already been destroyed
Neither the import company in the Netherlands nor Ukraine probably had anything to do with the smuggling, prosecutors said. It is said that the drugs have now been destroyed by TBB’s special operations team.
Just a few days ago, investigators found bags in the port containing around 500 kilos of cocaine, with a retail value of around 37.5 million euros. The container came from Colombia at the time.
In August, investigators seized about eight tons of cocaine worth about 600 million euros, krone.at reported. This was the largest shipment of drugs ever intercepted at the port.
Last year, 47 tons of drugs were seized
Rotterdam is one of the most important drug import ports in Europe. Last year, around 47,000 kilos of drugs were seized in Europe’s largest port.
