A UN worker and his entire family were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City. In total, about 70 family members were killed.
Former employee Issam Al Mughrabi (56) died along with his wife (53) and his three sons and two daughters aged between 13 and 32, the UN Development Program (UNDP) reports.
About 70 family members were killed
According to reports, about 70 other members of his circle of relatives were killed along with him. According to Arab media reports, 76 people were dead. The information cannot be independently verified.
UNDP executive Achim Steiner wrote in a statement: “The death of Issam and his family hits us all very hard.” The man had worked for the UN program for thirty years.
“This war must finally end”
Civilians are not targets, Steiner says: “This war must finally end. We don’t want any more families to have to experience this suffering.” The Israeli military said it was trying to investigate the report.
Even after the UN Security Council resolution on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Israel continued its offensive on Saturday. Authorities under the control of the Islamist Hamas reported heavy shelling in several cities. The Israeli army said it had destroyed a “strategic” tunnel complex in the city of Gaza and “eliminated terrorists.”
