A Viennese woman never expected that she would need support. But two strokes of fate landed you in financial trouble. Caritas was able to support the lady thanks to donations for our ‘Krone’ aid campaign ‘A spark of warmth’.
Susanne K. (name changed), now 34, has been working as a hairdresser since she was 18 and enjoys her work a lot. After difficult professional times during the Corona pandemic, two fates followed. First, Mrs. K’s beloved dog “Tylor” became seriously ill, and soon after, her mother suffered a stroke.
Viennese life changed drastically
The Viennese woman took over the care of her mother. As a result, she first had to reduce her working hours and then give up the job completely. A drastic change. Mrs. K. currently lives on emergency aid. Price rises and increased inflation have made life virtually unaffordable for them.
Rent increase and annual billing as a problem
In addition to everyday items, the Viennese woman regularly needs medicine for her four-legged friend, who is an important part of her life. She can hardly afford this. In addition, the rent was increased last year. Then came the annual energy bill and Mrs. K. was at her wits’ end. “It’s already very cold in my apartment and I keep thinking about turning on the heating.”
Caritas’ social guidance can help with this
Due to the high extra energy payment, the 34-year-old could no longer pay the rent and contacted Caritas social services. “It was very uncomfortable for me at first, but I didn’t know any other way out.” Caritas was able to support the Viennese woman not only with her rent, but also with her energy costs thanks to “A Spark of Heat”.
Mrs. K. hopes to find a new job soon
What would she have done without the help? “The eviction would probably have taken place.” Susanne K. has mixed feelings about the future. She hopes to find a job again soon and that everything in the world will become a little more normal again. “With the price increases, but also the wars.”
Give some hope
To give people like Mrs. K. not only concrete help but also some confidence and hope, we ask for donations. Thank you! If you are in need and cannot pay your energy bill, you can contact the Caritas hotline 05/17 76 300 or the online social advice service.
